The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library (MPHPL) is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge. This year’s challenge will run from Monday, June 2, to Monday, August 4. Challenge cards are available at any MPHPL location or can be downloaded right here online. Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of age; however, adults must have an MPHPL card to join.
The back of the challenge card features 20 challenge squares, five of which are marked with a beach ball. Once participants complete the five squares marked with a beach ball, they can visit any MPHPL location starting on or after June 9 to receive a small prize. Upon completing the entire card, participants can turn it in at any MPHPL location and select a new book of their choice from a list of over 125 titles.

MPHPL will host a Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff Party at the downtown Mishawaka Library, 209 Lincolnway East, Friday, June 6. Everyone is invited from 10 a.m. to noon for summer games, crafts, stories, and DIY dirt pudding cups! Registration is required for a special performance by musician Jeanie B! from 11 a.m. to noon. This interactive musical experience will get everyone up and moving to the beat.
The diamond sponsor for this year’s MPHPL Summer Reading Challenge is 1st Source Bank. Additional sponsors for small prizes include Culver’s and Dairy Queen.
“This is the fifth consecutive year that 1st Source Bank has co-sponsored our Summer Reading Challenge. Their monetary donation helps us purchase books for participants who complete the challenge and funds free family-friendly events, such as the performance by musician Jeanie B. We greatly appreciate 1st Source Bank’s contribution and commitment to literacy, as well as the support from our other reading challenge sponsors,” said Jennifer Ludwig, Director of Patron Services.
Additionally, MPHPL will host a community Summer Reading Wrap-Up Party at the Bittersweet Branch on the last day of the challenge, Monday, August 4, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The MPHPL Summer Reading Challenge has been a cherished tradition of the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library for decades. Last summer, 1,967 participants completed the challenge.
