Why 200 Books?
- The program was inspired by the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge.
- Reading on a regular basis during the elementary school years helps children to develop and maintain a variety of valuable skills:
- Language awareness
- Imagination and creativity
- Empathy and social skills
- Participating in this program while children are young helps instill a lifelong love of reading and sets them on the path to academic success.
-
How it Works
- Enroll by visiting the Youth Services desk at any MPHPL location or use the online registration form.
- Using the reading log, write down the title of each book you complete and give it a ranking (1-5 stars).
- For every 25 books you complete, bring your reading log to the Youth Services desk at any MPHPL location to receive a prize.
- Participant names will be listed in our bimonthly program guide each time a level is achieved.
-
Prize Information
- Participants can select a small "way to go!" prize upon reaching the 25, 75, 125 and 175 book levels. Prize selection varies.
- For those who reach the 50, 100 and 150 book levels, participants will receive their choice of a free book from our prize book basket.
- After reading 200 books, participants will earn a certificate of achievement along with a free book.
