History of National Library Week
First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) each April. The 2026 celebration marks the 68th anniversary of the first event. Visit www.ala.org to learn more about the history of National Library Week.
Monday, April 20: Right to Read Day
This day is dedicated to readers, advocates, and library lovers to take action to protect, defend, and celebrate the right to read. This year, ALA kicks off National Library Week with the release of its State of America’s Libraries Report, which includes the list of Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2025. Stand with readers across the U.S. in support of the freedom to read by pledging your support for the freedom to read.
Tuesday, April 21: National Library Workers Day
This day is for library staff and users to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers. Please stop by, say hello, and tell our staff how much they mean to you and to our community.
