Adult Services Associate

Description

The main purpose of this position is to assist with staffing the Circulation desk and maintaining efficient public service.

Hours

· 24 hours per week

· Includes evenings and Saturday rotation (hours subject to change)

Wage

$17.68

· Learn and follow general library operating policies

· Prepare the circulation desk for daily operation

· Check out and check in all types of library materials; assist patrons with the self-check system

· Sorts, arranges and shelves library materials according to numerical or alphabetical order

· Process fines and collect monies

· Issue library cards using patron registration procedures

· Process reserves, holds, interlibrary loans and damaged materials

· Process mail according to identified procedures

· Answer the phone and direct calls to appropriate staff

· Complete assigned shelf reading and maintain department organization

· Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

· High School diploma or equivalent

Work Skills

· Ability to communicate and work well with patrons and staff

· Basic computer skills and ability to type accurately

· Basic math skills

· Ability to learn the library’s automated circulation system

· Ability to multitask and exhibit good time management

· Ability to work independently and accurately

· Ability to learn new skills and follow directions

Physical Requirements

· Ability to pull a loaded cart

· Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds

· Ability to frequently stand, bend or stoop

· Ability, stamina, and balance to perform basic movements frequently
