The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library will retire the MPHPL App on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Patrons who use the app to access their digital library card can check out their items by saving a photo of their library barcode to their smartphone.
The decision to discontinue the app was due to the app’s continuous failure to properly search the library’s catalog. Patrons were given insufficient information.
We spent a lot of time searching for an alternative app. Unfortunately, we discovered there are currently no apps available that offer the required functionality.
What You Need to Know
- The app will be retired on Oct. 28, 2026.
- We recommend taking a photo of your library card barcode with your smartphone and saving it as one of your favorite photos for quick and easy checkout.
- You can also continue searching the catalog, placing holds, renewing eligible items and managing your account at mphpl.org.
- You can continue using your physical library card.
“This is so unfortunate … I expect patrons to be upset. I’m upset,” said Executive Director Donna Meeks. “One would think in this day and age of technology, we could provide an app. We will continue exploring this, and when one comes available that actually works, we will pounce on it.”
