School Visits
The staff of the Children's Departments of the downtown Mishawaka Library, Bittersweet Branch Library, and Harris Branch Library locations are more than happy to visit classrooms, or to have children come in for a tour of the Library.
The Friends of the Library have initiated an innovative program of support for Children's Services. It accomplishes two major purposes: it adds new books to the children's collections and it honors those school classes and youth groups that visit our facilities.
Here's how it works: When a class visits the library for a tour or instruction, the teacher and students make a selection from a group of books that have been pre-selected by the Children's Librarian and purchased for by the Friends of the Library. A nameplate honoring the teacher and the class is placed inside the book and that class may be the first to borrow the book and enjoy it. When the book is returned to the library, it is placed in the circulating collection for all to enjoy.
To date over 50 books have been added to our collections, thanks to the Friends. Just call the downtown Mishawaka Library at 259-5277 ext. 242, the Bittersweet Branch Library at 259-0392, or the Harris Branch Library at 574-271-3179 for more information. |
