School Visits
The staff of the Children's Departments of
the downtown Mishawaka, Bittersweet Branch and Harris Branch locations
are more than happy to visit classrooms, or to have children come in for
a tour of what the Library has to offer.
The Friends of the Library have initiated an innovative
program of support for Children's Services. It accomplishes two major purposes:
it adds new books to the children's collections and it honors those school
classes and youth groups that visit our facilities.
Here's how it works: When a class visits the library
for a tour or instruction, the teacher and students make
a selection from
a group of books that have been pre-selected by the Children's Librarian
and paid for by the Friends of the Library. A nameplate honoring the teacher
and the class is placed inside the book and that class may be the first
to borrow the book and enjoy it. When the book is returned to the library,
it is placed in the regular circulating collection for all to enjoy.
To date over 50 books have been added to our collections,
thanks to the Friends. Just call Wava Furlong at the downtown Mishawaka
Library, at 259-5277 ext. 242, Rita Kemble, at the Bittersweet Branch,
at 259-0392, or Children's Services at the Harris Branch, at 574-271-3179
for more information.
